Different strokes

Hi folks! Time for a bit of an update.

As some recall, upon arriving in our new home in Nanaimo I was motivated to set up new painting space as I mentioned having a larger commission to get done. It was quite a different subject matter for me, challenging me to capture the essence of a place I have not been. Now that it has been delivered I can share. I’m happy to hear it was well received by one of my long time collectors. Thank you for trusting me with this very special commission.

Another successful Esquimalt Urban Art Tour https://www.ecah.ca/urban-arts-tour happened on July 6th! I so appreciate the opportunity to take part in the tour hosted by ECAH which began 5 years ago and is going strong.

I was back at the location where it all began in 2020 at my host property, 452 Constance Avenue on Saxe Point. This is such a gorgeous location overlooking the water and the weather was like that first year too…beautiful and glorious sunshine.

Happy to report these three pieces (as well as several cards) found homes. Thank you to everyone who came out to support all the artists. I love visiting with people and chatting too…especially anything art.

After the Urban Art Tour I needed a bit of down time, nursing a cold I needed to rest before starting a regular walking regime. Between daily walks and getting in some bike rides I have returned to my most happy place…my studio!

Inspired from hikes around our new home in Nanaimo I have completed a few new pieces.

Springtime at Pipers Lagoon 16 x 20
Shack Island 10 x 20
Over the Hill 20×16

I’m finding my groove trying out different brush strokes and enjoying the sense of freedom and fun that brings.

I did it! I signed up for another workshop! Next week, August 7-8, I will be painting with David Goatley in a plein air workshop hosted by the Arts Council of Ladysmith and District https://www.ladysmitharts.ca/event-details/plein-air-painting. I was introduced to him at my first Victoria FCA meeting where he shared his stunning portraits. David is a very talented artist and I hope to learn a lot from him. Stay tuned.

Lots of painting to do…

The https://www.nanaimofca.com/ Fine Arts Show submissions are opening this month. I also am a participating artist in a show/sale later in the year at Trinity Church Hall in Naniamo, I’ll post more on that later.

Keeping it fun!

Til next time,

Jenny

Described as one who sees the art in nature, it is here where my endless inspiration comes from. Loving the challenge of capturing the feeling of where I stand, I enjoy recreating that feeling on canvas.
