Probably the biggest change for me this year was moving to a new community. We are very happy with our decision to move to Nanaimo this past Spring. I have a much larger studio space which I am really enjoying. Engaging with new art groups and fellow artists always inspires me.
I have continued to enter shows both locally and Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) shows in Vancouver. Acceptance in these shows has provided an opportunity to pursue a new FCA level which is a goal for next year. A change I’m pretty excited about! Wish me luck. I’ll keep you posted on that.
Currently, through December 22nd, my piece Look on the Bright Side is in the https://www.ladysmitharts.ca/ladysmithgallery Illuminate Show. Check out this show at the Ladysmith Gallery, 10-4 daily at 32 High Street.

Inspiration for my piece titled Look on the Bright Side is a trail I am very fond of running and cycling. The sun through the trees stopped me during a run causing me pause to enjoy the moment. Whatever life brings there is always a bright side if you can take time to notice it.
Another small change I have made is deciding to paint the edges of my new work with a solid colour (vs wrapping image). I am finding it quite liberating. Funny sometimes, how a small change can make you feel.
As I look toward the end of this year I am reflecting on my art practice. Reviewing everything from subject matter to compositions, thinking of possibly a series, to finding a good fit for me for future exhibitions and markets next year. All the stuff that is part of this process of making art.
I’m sure glad to have you along for the ride. It can be a bumpy one sometimes and your support is most welcome.
Thank you to everyone out there who supports all local artists, keeping us creating, doing what we love.
I would like to wish you all the best for the season and much joy and happiness for 2025.
Til next time,
Jenny
