In the background…

I was trying out a sketch for my next piece when my eye caught this vase. I use it to hold my brushes and prop up my iPad.

You see I used to do pottery. I began with hand building progressing to throwing clay on the wheel. I enjoyed the process however found it a little too challenging after moving from my group in Richmond to Sechelt with less free time and staring at a much longer commute.

Back to the vase…it was created as a challenge from our pottery guild to create a piece about ourselves. The ‘4:30’ represents my fastest full marathon finish time, the 9 rings etched to mark each of the full marathons I completed. Long retired from marathoning I now opt for long walks over running, I still appreciate the accomplishments whenever I catch myself looking in the background. It’s helpful to look back once and in a while to map our way ahead.

I enjoy time spent in my studio tucked away where I am always welcomed by my easel. Sometimes I just sit with moments of wonder while perusing reference photos, tidying my space, or listening to CDs of my favourite music.

Here’s some pieces I finished recently, just added to the pile for edge painting and varnishing.

Maybe some of them will come with me to Arts on the Avenue in Ladysmith in August 24th 10am top 4pm https://www.artsontheavenue.ca/ If you’re in the area be sure to drop by.

Til next time,

Jenny

Described as one who sees the art in nature, it is here where my endless inspiration comes from. Loving the challenge of capturing the feeling of where I stand, I enjoy recreating that feeling on canvas.
