The weather seemed to switch to summer overnight here. I have been enjoying a little break from my studio enjoying fun times outside biking/dips in the river/ocean. A getaway…first visit to Salt Spring Island which could not have been better! Then visiting with family, and sharing my art at the school was so inspiring (see below). Now that the warmer weather has arrived it was also time to transplant my tomatoes started from seed into the garden.
My creativity continues to be fed through my life drawing sessions, joining a plein air group recently, and finishing pieces I started last month…although that translates to not too many new studio pieces to share. Here’s one of my plein air sketches.

I have not painted plein air much, so embracing the challenge. I do hope to use these sketches to create larger studio pieces eventually.
If you were a book, what would your title be?

I was once again called upon to be a Human Library Book at a local elementary school. My book title was Inspired by Nature.
The students (K-grade 5) select or ‘sign out’ which ‘books’ the wish to hear about. In small groups they rotate between human books. Such a great concept. I was honoured to share the afternoon with them. Hearing their thoughts, about their art, comments and feedback was most inspiring! Such a joy to be a part of.
I did manage to make it into my studio to finish this one…fresh off my easel titled Solitude.

It was inspired from a favourite beach, inspiration for many pieces. I have already started another one so stay tuned!
Exciting stuff…As a member of the Coast Collective Arts Society I have an opportunity to show my art at the Juan de Fuca Community Centre. I received notice the other day that my art will be included in the next rotation of the Coast Collective Visual Arts Program – for the Juan De Fuca Recreation Centre in Colwood. Such a great opportunity! I will have 3 pieces in this rotation from Sunday June 4th to Sunday September 10th, 2023. If you are in the area drop by for a look. All art sales will be handled directly with the artist so please message me if you are interested in purchasing any of my pieces.
Now that I am caught up, it’s time to squish out paint, back to the studio.
Til next time,
Jenny
