I came across this quote from the writer E.B White recently, ‘Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.’ I love this. It’s a great reminder that perhaps we don’t always have the answers, stay curious and open to what tomorrow brings.
I may paint first for myself but always wonder if my work will resonate with others in a special way. This client reminded me to have faith that it does. I never would have guessed that someone seeing my art in a local coffee shop years ago would reach out in this way.
I began this year finishing a commission requested in mid December. This commission has been a few years in the making, lots of emails back and forth deciding on the composition. I was very happy to be able to deliver the finished piece in person on a recent trip up island. It was really lovely to meet the client and discuss the meaning of this particular painting. So very pleased to see their reaction in person and hear the special story behind the piece. My heart is full.
Here is the finished piece, 24×30

After completing the commission I took a break from my easel. However, I returned last week during our blast of winter weather to paint this small piece.

I’m finding a few things requiring my attention currently so will resolve to paint when I can and share when I do.
What’s happening now…
I received great news from Serious Coffee in Sooke that my turn in the rotation had arrived once again. On January 1st I hung a selection of pieces.

This small one has now sold from Serious Coffee in Sooke! Thank you to both the buyer and of course the staff there for assisting with the sale.
My two pieces I had hanging in the Colwood Arts and Culture member show at the JDF Recreation Centre sold recently (yay!) so I have replaced them with these two pieces. All sales handled by the artist, so please reach out if interested.

Watch for this event!

Colwood Arts and Culture Societyhttps://www.artsandculturecolwood.ca/upcomingevents will be celebrating the opening of new gallery space on February 14th. To honour the occasion they are holding a juried show aptly called Celebrate!
I have submitted two paintings and hoping to have them accepted for this gallery opening show. Stay tuned for updates!
Til next time,
Jenny
