March Update

March started off a little busy so I’m finally getting around to this post.

First sale of the year…

Seaweed Stroll, a piece I shared in my February update, has found a home with one of my collectors. Thanks so much! It is so affirming to have a piece sell and motivating too as it helps me continue to create new work.

I took a leap and submitted to be a Participating Artist in the Victoria Art Gallery TD Paint In

https://aggv.ca/art-gallery-paint-in-2023/

which is scheduled for July 15th. I have attended this event for several years, which takes place on Moss Street in Victoria, enjoying seeing all the art and artists creating their work. It is a very fun and well attended event, one not to be missed!

Entry is juried so I will find out next month if I’m in so will keep you posted.

Fresh from my easel…

Here’s a couple of pieces I completed recently, first one inspired from a walk at French Beach, titled Rock and Roll, seemed fitting with the waves rolling over them.

Rock and Roll 16in x 20in

I was feeling a need to go larger for my next composition attempting to capture the vastness. It was quite windy on a favourite hike in East Sooke so grabbing a photo while staying standing was a challenge, titled Holding Ground.

Time to celebrate Spring!

I love flowers and honestly have hundreds of photos of them from my garden to wild flowers I come upon on a trail. That said, I don’t often paint them. I thought, ‘time to give them a try‘ so I decided to submit to the Bloom Show coming up in April hosted by Arts and Culture Colwood, https://www.artsandculturecolwood.com/coastcollective

Here are the pieces I submitted:

First Lily 14in x 11in
Bashful 20in x 16in
Dance of the Fireweed 24in x 12in

Hoping to have one of these florals accepted to this show, in it’s 14th year, hosted by this group. This year the show will be at Pendray House, 3221 Heatherbell Road in Colwood. It is a lovely heritage house located near the Esquimalt Lagoon. Such a beautiful setting to enjoy art. Show dates are April 22-23.

With lots of events coming up I think I will be keeping busy. Stay tuned to see where my work may be showing. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or interest in my work.

Cherry blossoms are out in Victoria, time to start my tomato plants! Longer days ahead and along with it warmer weather too.

Til next time,

Jenny

Described as one who sees the art in nature, it is here where my endless inspiration comes from. Loving the challenge of capturing the feeling of where I stand, I enjoy recreating that feeling on canvas.
