Instead of Sailors Delight perhaps this piece should have been the titled Too Close to the Bottom!

At a recent art market I decided to include a few smaller pieces and hung them on a grid. Later in the afternoon I moved the grid to the other side of my tent which was closer to a paved pathway so people passing would see them.
Taking a moment to sit with my husband I was alerted by a woman approaching quickly, telling me a dog just peed on my painting! I jumped up to see and sure enough this piece was soaked! I wanted to thank the woman for alerting me however standing there stunned I missed the opportunity. I saw a couple approaching to confess their dog apparently peed on my painting. All I heard was sorry, but honestly I was lost for words.
Take away? I guess things like this can happen at outdoor events. I understand while people are enjoying looking at art, visiting etc they may not be aware of what their dogs are doing.
Lesson learned, do not hang art so low that it could be a ‘target’ so-to-speak. That said I have destroyed this piece as I can’t sell a painting a dog peed on.
Positively speaking…
Aside from this rather upsetting experience, the feedback I received on my art was so very positive and I really appreciate people coming out to support these events. Thank you to all who attended.
My stint at Serious Coffee Hammond wraps up on July 4th so stop by for a coffee/tea/treat to check out my work there. See menu Serious Coffee Hammond Bay
I’m looking forward to mixing things up a bit. Onto new projects, playing with watercolours right now so stay tuned to see my attempts with this challenging medium. I also have a plein air painting session coming up with members of my local art group.
